FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has thrown fresh fuel into Nigeria’s 2027 political firestorm, accusing some APC governors of working against him while making one thing crystal clear: he is firmly backing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike openly named Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as politicians whose actions have put them at odds with him.
Wike did not mince words.
Asked whether AbdulRazaq was among those determined to undermine him politically, he simply answered: “Yes.”
According to Wike, some politicians are obsessed with creating the impression that they are the ones closest to the President.
“They want them to be seen that they are the people working for the President. I don’t do that.”
He then turned his attention to the political turbulence in Kwara, particularly the fallout involving three senators and a House of Representatives member who were removed from the APC.
Wike argued that their departure could create a serious headache for the governor ahead of 2027.
His question was blunt: if those politicians no longer have a place in the APC, where will they go?
The ADC? The NDC?
And if they end up in opposition camps, Wike warned, they could ultimately become part of a political force working against Tinubu.
But Wike insisted that there is another option.
If those politicians align with him, he said, they would support Tinubu.
“If they come to me, obviously, they will vote for Mr President.”
‘I Am Not Planting Candidates’
Wike also pushed back hard against accusations that he is secretly building a political machine by sponsoring candidates across the country.
He denied the allegation, saying the situation is far more complicated than his critics portray it.
According to Wike, some governors have actually approached him about preventing the PDP from fielding candidates in their states.
But Wike says he never promised that.
His response was essentially: supporting Tinubu does not mean wiping the PDP off the ballot.
He questioned whether there had ever been an agreement that because some politicians are backing Tinubu, the PDP must automatically surrender its political presence across the country.
Wike and Uzodinma: Old Alliances, New Tensions
On his reported clash with Hope Uzodinma, Wike delivered another pointed reminder.
He said the Imo governor knows exactly how much political support he received from him during his rise.
“The governor of Imo State knows the support I gave to him very well.”
The statement carries weight because it suggests that whatever political tensions exist today, Wike believes the history between them cannot simply be erased.
‘If Tinubu Loses, I Will Be Hunted’
But the most explosive part of Wike’s message was his warning about what could happen if Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.
Wike said he knows exactly where he would stand in such a scenario — and he does not want to find out.
He argued that opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would come after politicians who openly backed Tinubu if the President were defeated.
And Wike believes he would be among the first targets.
“I will be the first politician that Atiku, Obi will hunt for his head.”
That, he said, is precisely why he has no intention of sitting on the fence.
Wike's message is unmistakable: he will back Tinubu, even if that puts him on a collision course with powerful politicians within the APC.
For Wike, 2027 is no longer just about party loyalty. It is about alliances, survival, influence — and choosing which side he wants to be standing on when the political battle reaches its climax.
