The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a politically explosive shake-up of its Presidential Campaign Council, bringing heavyweight politicians, influential governors, top government officials and former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo into the machinery of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The revised list, released on Tuesday, features some unexpected names, including Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, all of whom have been assigned key coordination roles in their respective states or territories.
Wike will coordinate Tinubu’s campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, while Soludo and Adeleke will oversee campaign activities in Anambra and Osun states, respectively.
The appointments add a fresh political dimension to the APC’s re-election strategy, as the party assembles a formidable network of political heavyweights and mobilisation strategists ahead of the next presidential contest.
Political Heavyweights Take Centre Stage
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu has been appointed Deputy Director-General (South II), while Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule will serve as South-South Deputy Coordinator for State Assemblies Mobilisation.
Minister of Works David Umahi has also been assigned the role of Deputy Director-General for Infrastructure and Sensitisation.
In another significant appointment, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will take charge of campaign finances as Director of Finance. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji will lead fundraising efforts.
Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has been named Director of Stakeholder Mobilisation, while former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola will coordinate stakeholder mobilisation across the South-West zone.
Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo joins the council as an adviser, alongside Obafemi George, who will provide media advisory support.
Yobo Gets Major Role in Sports Mobilisation
In a move that brings sporting star power into the political arena, former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has been appointed Deputy Director for Sports Sector Mobilisation.
Businessman Ayiri Emami has also secured the position of Director for Special Duties.
The media and communications team will feature Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, Kano lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin, Lere Olayinka, media aide to Wike, and Segun Sowunmi.
Their inclusion signals the campaign council’s emphasis on communication, public engagement and political messaging.
Yari Retains Command as Tinubu’s Campaign Structure Expands
At the top of the campaign hierarchy, Senator Abdulaziz Yari retains his position as Director-General, while Senator Adams Oshiomhole continues as Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation.
Femi Gbajabiamila will serve as Deputy Director-General for Administration, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma retaining his position as Secretary of the Campaign Council.
APC National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru has been named Deputy Secretary, while former Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Assistant Secretary.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake also retains his position as campaign council spokesman, while lawmaker James Faleke will oversee election planning, coordination and monitoring as Deputy Director-General.
A Wider Political Offensive
The revised council brings together governors, federal ministers, lawmakers, party strategists and influential public figures under one campaign structure.
With Wike, Soludo, Adeleke and Yobo among the headline names, the appointments place a broad mix of political influence, regional coordination and public visibility at the centre of Tinubu’s re-election machinery.
The big question now is how effectively the expanded team will translate its political reach into grassroots mobilisation and electoral strength.
