The victims were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom when kidnappers struck near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on October 1.

But on Wednesday, the nightmare came to an end.
Security operatives stormed the **Amakohia-Ubi forest in Owerri West**, where the 20 corps members were found and rescued in a coordinated operation involving security agencies.
The victims, who had endured days in captivity, were immediately taken to the **DSS Hospital in Owerri**, where they are receiving medical attention and undergoing medical checks.
Uzodimma Hails Security Operatives
Imo State Governor **Hope Uzodimma** has praised the security agencies for pulling off the rescue and bringing the ordeal to an end.
In a statement personally signed by him, the governor also commended the cooperation between the Imo and Oyo State governments, saying their joint efforts contributed to the release of the captives.
Uzodimma explained that authorities deliberately kept the operation under wraps because the priority was protecting the lives of the abducted corps members.
He thanked the security agencies for their **discreet and coordinated approach**, which ultimately led to the safe return of all 20 victims.
