Former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has died at the age of 71.

A family member, who confirmed his death to Channels Television, said the former governor died on the morning of Monday, October 19, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja after a period of illness.

His death was described as a devastating loss to his family and the many people whose lives he touched during his lifetime.

Uduaghan, a medical doctor by profession, held several key public offices in Delta State before becoming governor. He served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and later as Secretary to the State Government between 2003 and 2007.

He succeeded James Ibori as governor in 2007 and governed Delta State for two consecutive terms, leaving office in 2015. After his tenure, Uduaghan remained active in Delta State and national politics.

Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed sadness over the former governor’s death, describing him as a detribalised leader whose contributions to the development of the state would remain memorable.
