Tinubu Leaves Paris, Heads to Lagos for Key Political Engagements

News

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Paris, France, and is on his way back to Nigeria, with Lagos set to be his first stop for a series of high-profile engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.

Tinubu is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later today following the conclusion of his working vacation, which took him from Abuja to London and subsequently to Paris.

The President’s Lagos itinerary will include events marking Nigeria’s Independence Day and activities honouring the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, a central figure in the country’s democratic history.

Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a movie celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu. Abiola was the acclaimed winner of the June 1993 presidential election, whose annulment became a defining episode in Nigeria’s struggle for democratic rule.

Beyond the commemorative events, the President is scheduled to hold meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 and spent a week in London before proceeding to Paris, where he combined private engagements with meetings involving political and business figures.

In Paris, the President held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met with prominent business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group. The group has interests spanning media and digital businesses, including Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.

Tinubu also met with businessman Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Holdings, during his stay in the French capital.

Earlier, the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the proposed development of a deep-sea port at Ogun Waterside and the creation of a Blue Marine Economic Zone.

According to the Presidency, DP World is planning an investment of $7 billion in the proposed port and economic zone, a project expected to expand maritime and logistics activities in the area.

After completing his engagements in Lagos, President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja.

The development was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on September 29, 2026.
