Tinubu Extends Tenures Of Heads Of Correctional & Immigration Service Bosses By 18 Months

News

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended the tenures of two key security chiefs, granting them an additional 18 months to remain in office amid efforts to sustain ongoing reforms and avert a leadership vacuum.

The beneficiaries are Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Under the presidential approval, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap's tenure has been extended to June 30, 2028.

The decision followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who sought to address an impending succession gap and give the relevant board sufficient time to appoint their successors.

President Tinubu, while commending both service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership, charged them to consolidate the gains and sustain the momentum.

Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu in December 2024 and confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.

Nandap, on the other hand, was nominated on February 21, 2024, and received Senate confirmation on March 1, 2024.

The extensions will keep both agency heads in charge beyond their original tenure timelines, providing additional time for continuity in the leadership of Nigeria's correctional and immigration services.
