President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), effective August 27, 2026.
Enitan will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service upon attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
The new HCSF, who hails from Osun State, is currently the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.
Enitan has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months, during which he held key positions at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
His appointment brings extensive institutional experience to the leadership of the Federal Civil Service, with the presidency highlighting his understanding of the operations and workings of the service.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for her distinguished service and contributions to reforms, innovation and improved performance in the Civil Service.
The President expressed the nation's appreciation for her years of dedicated public service and wished her success in her post-retirement life.
Tinubu also charged Enitan to build on the reforms and innovations already underway in the Civil Service, while deepening professionalism, efficiency and accountability across the service.
The President further urged the incoming HCSF to lead a Civil Service that is merit-driven, innovative, responsive and capable of effectively delivering the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
He later earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
Enitan is expected to assume office on August 27, 2026, following the retirement of Walson-Jack.
